Fly infestation! Getting fed up with fly swatting today. Must have killed close to ten today and the same yesterday. I do open my windows every morning to get some fresh air and was wondering where they keep on coming from? They are b,ack and on the large ide. They are a bit slow so easy to swat but could the unusual warm weather have anything to do with it?

Yes I have got a cat and have no idea if she's dragged something inside! Usually she brings it to me and I haven't smelled anything unusual. I am going to have a good look around the house. Thanks for your suggestion.

We had a load of flies once, so many I decided to close the garden doors but found we got more, I hunted around & found they were coming from the chimney, I guess a bird had fallen down the chimney and died so that is what could have caused the fly infestation, I blocked the small hole up and that stopped then coming in the house.
So you better get searching, hope you find where they are coming from & Good Luck :o))

As you are in N.Shropshire, like us, the dumping of manure in the fields around us is a source of flies.

In a normal season they would largely have disappeared by now. I think you're right about the warm weather. maybe they are looking for somewhere to spend the winter! We used to say they are going through Manchester to Hyde, but that's only funny if you know about Hyde...

Hi Sue, I live about 3 miles from Hyde, do you know Stalybridge?, we're classed as Stalybridge, but live on the moors about 1 mile out of town, that bit of Cheshire that has no right to be in Cheshire, left of us is the west riding of yorkshire, right of us is Lancashire, and above us is Derbyshire, funny place to live, Derek.

My son's in-laws live in Lees. I hadn't realised how close it is to all those borders!

My grandma did Melchi- she was Yorks Lancs border lady, but I am a Sheffielder, on the Yorks Derbyshire border - the best of both worlds. I worked in Nantwich for some years, but that's way south of you. Our son lives in Dobcross, on the edge of Saddleworth Moor (and it is very cold!) You'll be quite near Bloomer and Pansypotter where you are. I know we went very near to Pansy's home when we got lost trying to find Dobcross, (Why don't they put up a few signposts in Oldham...)but we didn't know at the time.

Some places have very poor signage. I often think they don't expect anyone from "outside" to visit!

Hi, I go to the garden centre in Dobcross, it's about the best in the area, {not the cheapest though}, we used to have several nurseries near us, but the majority of them had to close when the motorway was extended, and they built a big shopping centre, including a VERY expensive garden centre.
I agree about the sign posting, {non existent}, even the sat nav gets it wrong, that just gives you the name of the rd, whilst rd signs just give you the number, plus they don't always tell you where the rd leads to, and the local radio refers to the M60 ring rd as either clockwise, or anti clockwise, {how do you know when you're on it, the motorway signs don't tell you}, very annoying, Derek.

I can understand why nobody expects people to visit Oldham - that must be the answer. But we didn't see it at its best, have to admit. We went to Mossley twice by mistake before we found Dobcross...
I'd have liked to go to that garden centre Derek - perhaps might make it another time. We don't go often as its such a very long drive.

I've lost count of the number of times I have driven past the correct exit on the M60 when driving back to Southport! I get confused when it only seems to flag up "south-east" or "south-west". I once drove all the way round the wrong way when coming back from Oldham because I entered from the wrong sliproad. It was signed to "Manchester", and I considered I'd come past M/cr to get there. By the time I realised, I was in Stockport, so I just kept going and ended up taking the scenic route!
Apologies, Amsterdam - we've travelled a long way from fly infestation.

Could something have died within the house that a fly has laid its eggs on? Not trying to be rude but one of our cats brought a dead mouse in and, apparently didn't eat it and we had a real infestation for a week or more - and couldn't find the damned mouse!
