Remind me this spring Loribisquit, and I will see if I can get some softwood cuttings to take root for you.

Thanks B lourenco, it's a little trouper, low maintance, and takes neglect with ease, and still blooms for me. I really should treat it better, but if I were to suddenly pamper it, it would probably go into shock and die...lol

Thanks Steve, it looked good that year. It's not going to look that great this year, I forgot to prune it back this Spring. I've had too much to do this year and too little time to do it in....

Thanks Xcyx, I love the rich purple color on this one. Sadly the blooms have already come and gone for another year. Thank goodness for pictures...:-)

What a lovely spot to sit & savour the rest of the garden. This clematis is lovely. When you prune it, do you just give it a light trim, or does it require a hard pruning to produce great flowers the following year? I haven't ever had any success with clematis ... the three I put in when I lived in England all withered & died not too long after they were planted. So I have never tried since. But I really want some in my garden here in NZ, & am hoping to have success at last. Do they require special handling whilst they are establishing themselves?

Hi Dwyllis, sorry for the long wait, as I don't find the time to get on GOY very often.
I really envy you living in New Zealand, with it's fertile soil and ideal temps. My soil is as poor as it gets, so if plants do well for me, they should do great for you. This clematis blooms on new growth, so for best preformance you need to prune it back hard in late Feb or March to first or second strong leaf bud. I give it one annual composting of humus and manure in spring. It pretty much takes care of itself after that.
