thanks Rose, me neither, but there they were on the asters. Saw a Red Admiral too but it would not sit still. lol. By the way checked out that members page and it does look like they have cancelled their membership. Oh dear, another one bites the dust. x B

That's a really good shot of such a lovely butterfly on such a brilliant coloured Aster flower! :-)) Had to go into my "Favourites" at once!

That's lovely, Barbara. I was very disappointed not to see the usual number of butterflies this year. Apart from cabbage whites, that is - there were scores of them! I kept hoping they were just late, but there were definitely fewer in this area. Yet when we were in Cromarty, there was a buddleia bush near the house which was smothered with them.

Thank you so much Balcony, we have had quite a few of these, but many more peacocks and only a couple of Red Admirals.

Thanks Melchi yes it is disappointing when we do not get to see them in our gardens, think all the rain we had last year spoiled their habitats and the cold wet spring we had here this year. But after saying that, there has been lots of bees and hoverflies this year as well as some butterflies, if not as many as in previous years. Hoping for a better spring to enable them to develop properly next year.

thank you Annella, hope you are enjoying what is left of the late summer, although today it is raining here and quite a dark dismal morning.

It's cold, wet and windy here Olive. I don't think I will be gardening this weekend.

True, Barbara - there were loads of bees and hoverflies here. I saw very few wasps this year, though. How about you?

11 Oct, 2013

We haven't had many wasps in the garden here, but OH has had to have 4 nest disposed off on the sports ground, so they are about in places. Three of the nests were in the big slide mound in the children's playground at the sportsfield. The last one he had cleared was a really big one too. Strange how some places have them and others none to talk of. Not complaining as we have been able to eat out and not be buzzed by them. :O)

We had a nest in the airing cupboard one year (well, that is, in the cavity wall alongside the airing cupboard, into which they gleefully "escaped".) Not to be recommended! We have a lot of ivy around the perimeter of the garden and that's usually buzzing with them, but they have been strangely absent this year.
