I saw a two & a half inch moth in the garden, it's hair was like a fur coat lol, I have tried to add some pics I took but my message & pic's won't go through?
Anyone know what it could be?

Wow, it looks so soft. We had a white fluffy one in our garden, it was a stunner of a moth!

certainly a hawk moth of some description. did you notice any colouration on the underwings or hasn't it revealed itself?

Thanks for the info, it didn't reveal its under wings, Hubby took an even closer picture of around its head area and it looked like bears fur lol. I did have a look at Privet Hawk & this is what I found in the end Privet Hawk-moth Sphinx ligustri and the pic's looked like this one, mind you the pic is of two mating lol found it on........

I agree it's a Privet Hawk moth, the pink colouring on the body doesn't show until the wings are more open. The caterpillars are wonderful, huge and green with pink and white joined slashes on the body and huge horn or spike on the end. They live on privet (obviously) or lilac where we used to find them when children, many moons ago!

How do we advertise our privet to any local hawk moths? they would be so welcome...Its flowering now and smells lovely.

If it had a pink and black striped body it will be a privet hawk moth.
