SUNDAY AFTERNOON

The snow didnt last long so we got outside this afternoon. Sowed some Hollyhocks Nigra & some Sweet peas, then we dug up the Mahonia. The soil was sodden it’s a wonder anything grows there. I dont think it had been dug deeply for years. So we put in plenty of compost to improve it a bit then re-positioned the Mahonia so that its planted at a better depth now. Now I can plant a couple of ferns at its base. We’ll see how it goes!

No it wasn't too bad to move;that was part of the problem, it had been planted so shallowly & soil built up around. I could never plant anything around it because of its roots. So it looks happy at the moment I am just going to keep working on improving the soil around it that is such wet clay. Time will tell.
