The Terrific Trefoil Tree

We’ve made it! From the contents of our recycling bins we have made decorations for our contribution to the Christmas Tree Festival at West Wycombe this year. Chepping Wycombe Trefoil Guild started making the decorations from all sort of bits and pieces including surplus fun badges, curtain rings, can lids, plastic cups and crisp packets at their monthly meeting in November, finishing them at our Meet2Chat the following week, which was also the tree’s dress rehearsal 😄 We feel quite chuffed with ourselves; with one or two minor tweaks and the addition of an explanatory blurb we hope it lives up to its name.🥳 Chepping Wycombe Guild’s ‘Terrific Trefoil Tree’ has been in situ for West Wycombe Christmas Tree Festival this last week … we had a slight hiatus while setting up as we couldn’t open the battery pack to insert the batteries for its lights but John, a member of the congregation, very kindly came to our rescue. The theme for the Festival is ‘Rejoice and Recycle’ which has given rise to remarkably dissimilar trees, well worth a visit to see! They are all on display at the Carol Service in St Paul’s church this afternoon. Then tomorrow afternoon we shall be transferring our tree to the Co-op store in Downley, High Wycombe, to bring seasonal cheer and make our presence known in our local community for the remainder of Advent.

That looks beautiful, well worth the patience, hard work and thought you've all put into it! Such a good forward thinking, yet old time traditional, idea. Congratulations!

Thank you Seaburngirl and Sunnydais, we had great fun making our creations and are delighted that it has given others pleasure too. We wait with bated breath to find out what the theme for next year's Christmas Tree Festival will be ;-)

Well done Xela! Lots of hard work and you’ve come up with a fantastic idea. Looks really lovely! Agree, recycling, upcycling..all well with it.

The tree looks lovely, it shows what can be done when everyone pulls together, and recycling is a good idea too ... I hope you enjoyed the carol service :)

Thank you Kate and Hywel, I am glad you like both the idea and the outcome. The Carol Service was lovely too, very traditional, the vicar was down to earth with an impish twinkle in her eye ( 'if you don't know who I am then you should come to church more often ;-) ' ) and the church was packed with villagers and representatives of the groups in the surrounding area who had decorated a Christmas tree for the Festival; most stayed for a cuppa, slice of home-made cake and a natter afterwards, it was most enjoyable. Today we shall be moving the tree to spread its cheer in the Guild's local community in Downley, wish us luck!

I am pleased to say the tree's transfer went smoothly and it will be in its new home until Twelfth Night, 6th January. Its lights will need a lot more batteries to twinkle for that long, they are on my shopping list today ;-) The theme for next year's West Wycombe Christmas Tree Festival has been decided, it is to be 'Movies and Musicals' ..... glad we have twelve months warning, that doesn't sound so easy! :-)

Thank you, Julien, the staff at the Co-op store are delighted with it too, lots of customers have commented about it. When I dropped by with the spare batteries the Manager said she had had a call from a worried member of staff the night before, he had forgotten to switch the tree's lights off so it had twinkled all night .... yet it was still twinkling the next day, just!!! I've made a note to myself to drop by again next week with another supply of batteries :-)
