Taking cuttings

The thing I love about gardening is creating a full blown plant from a tiny cutting. I get thrilled to bits when it survives to be planted out or given to someone.

I made my lavender plant huge by laying down the stems & poking bent wires into the ground to hold it down. Guess it would have been easier to just buy a couple of new plants to fill it but where would the fun be in that. (it took a few years)

That is one area of gardening that I've only tried once . . . it was an epic failure :) All of my cuttings grew mold and died, but I don't think I really had the proper set-up for what I was doing. Can cuttings be taken mid-season? Maybe I'll try again . . .
