Easterlies in February

Ouchy! I’m not really enjoying our second cold spell. The easterlies are back, and will be around until next week at least. Although one benefit of the cold, is the continued presence of lots of redwings and fieldfares in the fields.
Started pruning the big apple in our garden this weekend. It’s a biggun’ and takes some time just to wrok out where to prune! This year i’m following the advice of stephenhayesuk at youtube
It’s so useful to see someone’s work and then adapt it to your garden. The aim of this prune is to create more space in the middle of the tree, bit of thinning and reduce the height! Don’t think i can do it all at once, or there’ll be alot of work in spring/summer cutting out all the water shoots.
The snowdrops are a delight right now, some hellebore are on their way (red).
And a Rosa Royal William is waiting to be planted. A good thing i found is Root Grow or something similar. It helps prevent rose sickness after replanting in the same spot as a previous rose.

I wrap up warm and try to get outside every day - there's such a lot to do, still. I dug manure into the areas where my sweet peas will go this afternoon, and I have some planting to do, too - but the forecast isn't too good. I don't think it's worth risking it yet! Brrrrr...:-(((

I hope the weather will improve for you soon. Good luck with your pruning.

The Weather is really bad for gardening this year.
Once you get out there and start, you get that feeling you could stay out there
all day!!
When pruning your tree be very careful, its so easy to go wrong
Its good that you have advice at the ready, otherwise you can end up doing
more bad for your tree, than good. You are so lucky with your Snowdrops
they are quite difficult to grow. I have attempted growing them three times
with not much luck!
They must like your garden....What is your Secret?
It seems like, you have a very nice garden, It seems well established.
Good Luck with your Pruning!!!
