I am so glad I joined AGS from Bulbaholic's blogs last year. There is a wealth of information in their magazine. Well worth the subscription, particularly for people with small garden areas. Just a choice of how you adapt with available budget. I am learning to be kinder to my Alpines. Seems now that in the wild, the fine roots penetrate down 2 feet. They cling to rocks at that depth, creating the strength the plant needs to withstand strong winds in the mountains in all weathers. Nature is wonderful. Its us who need to learn more about it.

Diane is describing what is essentially a photo competition on the AGS website. When it opens for viewing there will be loads of great pictures of alpine plants. These will be plants flowering out of the usual 'show' season and growing in the garden as well as in pots. It is judged in the same manner as a conventional show in a hall. You do have to be an AGS member to exhibit, but what is so bad about that.
