I still have the 'cat' problem in my raised beds.

I will not have this animal using my food growing areas
as a toilet. The Brambles idea is horrible. Have fitted all
my hoops and netting to the other 3 beds growing Fodder
Radish Green Manure, over the next couple of months.
Have today set up a new idea, seen on ’ Beechgrove
Garden’ when they went to the allotments.
Had 16 strong Leek plants. Cut open two black bin bags to fit my raised bed.
Cut 4 rows of 4 crosses evenly spaced in
the plastic.
Removed plants from tray.
Placed black plastic on soil surface. Planted each Leek plant through its hole. Weighed the plastic down with
8 bricks round the edges, and 2 in the middle (its windy
here) – thinking – " go and pee somewhere else !"

Ingenious. Hope it works for you. But don't worry too much about using prickly things - cats aren't stupid and will have the sense to avoid them.

I had the deuce of a job collecting all the dead bramble
stems and taking to the wheelie bin.

Yes its not the pleasantest task is it? I've found its not quite as bad it you clip the long briars into shorter lengths and lay them all facing one way on a length of strong twine(or two lengths if the prunings are long ones) Then put a boot on the pile, pick up the ends of the twine and tie them tightly.I do this with most of my prunings - we have a lot of trees and bushes so it can be a big job, especially when it involves brambles and blackthorn! Thank goodness for thorn proof gloves eh? This gets them to the bonfire without too much grief (far too many for a brown bin once we get started!)

Good for you Diane, no matter how much protection you have it seems to me the brambles always manage to get you somewhere...

And foxes voles and badgers too Pam and really hated doing it, but I would never use it for cats. I got a bit in my own eye once - not to be forgotten...
