ive never had time for the garden except to keep it tidy.
Now i have retired I spend a lot of time in the garden and i am making alterations. i am ordering plants and today I have realised I have made a big mistake ive planted Phlox Paniculate straight into the garden and after 3 days they dont look good, yes i should have put them in pots.

I agree with Seaburngirl, and also remember plants often take a while to settle into their new position anyway.

What matters most now is strong healthy root stock as the plants begin to retreat. The growing season is over and it's sleepy time now. A good layer of mulch adds a layer of protection and planting at the correct depth. I would leave them in the ground.

welcome to Goy eagleye,
if they are very small and have only been in the ground a couple of days then you can still plant them into pots and shelter them and then plant out next spring.
