grass snakes

while spreading compost from my compost heap I dug up
a grass snake. It must have been hibernating there, its
lucky it was not cut in half because I did’nt see it until the
second. Apparently its a favourite place for them to over
winter [nice and warm] so be careful.

Thank you for that fredtheted....I have grass snakes here, I have just started a compost bin....I will be sooo nervous to open it, as I am still trying to overcome my fears of snakes.

I've found snakes in my compost pile (also in my attic...the living room....the front porch, etc.!) too so I'm now very careful - I really don't want to cut any of them in pieces! They like to try and come indoors this time of year. Seaburngirl, just come to my house, you will find all the snakes you want and more!! It's infested.

Yes, you're right - we often find them in there.
