Fern - Giant Shuttlecock Fern 'The King'
Genus: Matteuccia.
Species: Matteuccia struthiopteris.
Deciduous 210cm tall, stately fern with upright tall fronds groing in the shape of a shuttlecock. An old variety that has very large, upwright fertile fronds these are a rusty brown colour and give the alternative common name of flowering fern. Has a particually large crown and prefers wet to moist acid/neutral soil. will tollerate full sin in wet soil. bought from ebay feb 09 i have plans to plant it either in the woodland bed or in the fairy garden have'nt decided where yet. it is a very small plant so i have potted up to grow on in the greenhouse for a while.
