Tabebuia heterophylla - Pink Trumpet Tree
Species: Tabebuia heterophylla.
Common name: Pink Trumpet Tree
Botanic name: Tabebuia Heterophylla
Family: Bignoniaceae
A large evergreen or semi-deciduous tree that is easily recognised by the leathery leaves with 3-5 leaflets with yellowish petioles and mid ribs. The margins of the leaflets are smooth and leaflets are rounded at the apex.
It is semi-deciduous. Some trees lose most of their leaves prior to blooming (best) while others hold most of their old leaves while in flower
The large flowers are trumpet-shaped pink or sometimes whitish with a yellowish throat, and are carried in clusters on the outside of the tree. As it matures, Pink Tabebuia will bloom on and off through all the warm months and into the autumn for larger trees.
Fruit is a long dehiscent capsule usually about 10 cm long but may be more, with numerous seeds, about 1.5 cm long including wings.
