Greenthumb's Garden
Sea Onion
Genus: Ornithogalum.
Species: Ornithogalum longibracteatum.
Usually called pregnant onion, this nice little plant has been in my house for many years. I didn't plant it upright so it has always draped off the loft. About five feet long and flowers twice a year another 5 foot pole of little white flowers that aren't terribly significant though very fascinating. It has finally started to produce the babies now that it has really gotten large itself. I saw an upright picture that made it look very attractive, but I don't want to mess with it. Doesn't need anything special though good light stimulated the flowering. I got nothing for the first three years after separating it from a parent plant at the university greenhouse. I also water it a little better now. Not really attractive a little like long pieces of stiff kelp, but no one misses it when looking around. :-)
