Buzzbee's Garden
Paeony
Genus: Paeonia.
Species: Paeonia tenuifolia.
I first saw this plant in Dundee Botanic Garden in 2006 - it wasn't even in flower - just had the flower buds, but I absolutely fell in love with the feathery foliage. Went back a while later, but the flowering was past! When we moved to this house one of the first plants I ordered was Paeonia tenuifolia, from Binny Plants.
In 2007 we got some of the lovely foliage, but no flowers. Now, at the beginning of January there are two of the tell-tale red paony tips breaking through the soil. Such a thrill, I just can't wait for this to mature - it should be a lovely dark crimson single flower with golden yellow anthers, according to the RHS.
