This highly variable species is native to rainforests and eucalypt forests in northern Queensland and the Northern Territory in Australia.
It grows into a shub rarely more than 3 m (10 ft. tall). The slender canes support crowns of stalked, broad, lanceolate leaves that are glossy dark green above and beautifully glaucous below.
There is a raceme of small pink and slightly tubular flowers with yellow-ended stamens. These are followed by orange to bright red fruits.
