Greenthumb's Garden

Wild: Rhubarb (alaska)

Genus: Polygonum.

Species: Polygonum alaskanum.

Strong tuberous wild plant that grows to 6ft tall with big hanging white seedheads through the later summer. Leaves are not as big as a traditional rhubarb and the plant is toxic and should not be eaten though the seeds can be ground to extend flour of be used as a flour replacement. Easy to move and better to move than to try killing at its location if it needs removed. Very dramatic plant but should be placed toward the back since it is not full in greenery. Does tend to fall over when seedheads develop. I have a large amount of this at my current property and haven;t decide how to use it in the garden yet. :-)
