I was told that this plant was a phlox...but much to my chagrin I have found out through a search of the wild flower sites on the internet that this flower is an alein. It came to North America from Europe.
AKA White Cockle, White Robin, White Campion
Member of Pinks family
flower is creamy white/light yellow (at least mine is) with an inflated calyx, 2.5 cm wide, with green veining and sticky hairs. Leaves are opposite, ovate/lanceolate. It blooms July to October. It thrives in rich soil..but will grow anywhere.
