Conx's Garden
Hornbeam
Genus: Carpinus.
Species: Carpinus betulus.
20 hornbeam for hedge at front of garden. Planted 2/5/11.
Site originally had fir tree species which had become tall unsightly and un-mangeable. Removed and site cleared 2.5.11.
Reminder - as agreed with John Roe (Woodsman) aim to keep hedge when grown to just above chest height.
Trim July 2012 - specifically take top growth out to encourage bushiness.
Leaves turn a golden yellow in Autumn, then brown and stay on the plant throughout winter. Moderatley vigorous.
During first Spring and Summer water well (once a week) during dry periods.
