Lori's Garden

Monarda didyma

A favourite of bees and hummingbirds...hence "bee balm" it's leaves and flowers have a distinct scent and a pure clear red blossom. Grows 36-48 inches tall, blooms in June, leaves are opposite, med.green with reddish cast, stems are squarish. Seems indifferent to soil type but will do best in compost rich garden soil...(have seen them grow in stoney clay!) Will tolerate afternoon shade but prefers full sun.****
