Cosmos

Genus: Cosmos.

Species: Cosmos bipinnatus.

Cosmos are annuals, grown for their showy flowers. The flowerheads may be bowl– or open cup–shaped and are atop of long stems. Cosmos are easy to grow and make good border or container plants. They make for good decorations in flower arrangements and also attract birds, bees, and butterflies to your garden. They can be hard to manage as they produce an abundance of seed. Mine grow in to very large plants and I pull most seedlings each spring.

Cosmos is native to scrub and meadow land in Mexico where most of the species occur, as well as the United States], as far north as the Olympic Peninsula in Washington, Central America, and to South America as far south as Paraguay. One species, C. bipinnatus, is naturalized across much of the eastern United States and eastern Canada

Bees, birds and butterflies all love these flowers.
