Lori's Garden

Four O'clocks

Genus: Mirabilis.

Species: Mirabilis jalapa.

I love these plants for their sturdy structure and their sweet smelling night blooming flowers...the seed are very easy to harvest...the only negative is that the dead flower heads cling and because they bloom in clusters it's hard to deadhead and not disturb the buds..they only last one night. this season I have pink and yellow solids...sometimes they can be dappled bicolours and range from deep magentas, to soft pinks to purple and bright yellow... For colour and for scent they can't be beat.
They are a South American plant..and very cold sensitive..as a result they are totally annual but luckily they are quite easy from their large lantern shaped seeds.
