Alstroemeria and Phlox

Saw that alstomeria at the garden centre last week - love the leaves, but does it get as invasive and huge as the others?

Yes its a beautiful plant, and its been very well behaved, but this is it's first year so I don't know how quickly it will grow. It hasn't done much since July so I am hopeful it will behave. I'm not too bothered if it takes over though, as its a rubbish bed which doesn't really sustain anything! Are the other types very invasive then?

Enough for me to get fed up with them, so I removed the plants both times. I found they spread quite widely, and looked quite messy, particularly when not in flower, but because this one has attractive leaves, I might have another go - when you let me know how it performs next year!!

I am giving up trying to grow Alstroemerias - even those as beautiful as yours!! I simply don't succeed with them. :-((

What goes wrong Spritz? I am going to introduce some others into that bed, as this one has done so well, and maybe the conditions are good for that plant. I'm not sure what conditions they like, but this bed is very clay-ey, dry and full shade after 11am - so not great basically!

That's interesting - my soil was heavy clay when I found it became terribly invasive, and it was also half sun half shade - perhaps that's what they like.

I suspect that it's the usual culprits in my garden....sn**ls....grrrrrrrrr.......

I was a bit liberal with the pellets this year I'm afraid, so no snail damage - but weirdly, they only ever seem to be in my back garden anyway, hiding in the ivy.
Hi Bamboo - all the places I've googled say they like full sun and well draining soil...so who knows??

Yea, I know that's what's recommended - ain't life grand!
