Yes this is acer/maple time, they know they can steal the show when there is no competition.

She's gone brilliant red and showing off above those other fallen leaves...very pretty of her....

I have one of these in my garden area but I don't get the bright red. Our temperatures a couple of weeks ago dipped to 42 (only for a couple of nights) which triggered the leaves to begin the fall change. Two days later, our high daytime temperatures (85 degrees F) baked the Anthocyanins (this is what gives the red color) in the leaves and they quickly turned brown. This happened last year too but someday (in future years) we may have a freak fall which may allow the leaves to turn bright red (at least, I can hope)
