Japanese Barberry(Berberis thunbergii)

This one lives under the yew hedge at the front of the house and has small thorns.

I was just about to ask if it was thorned.... I dug a whole hedge of these plants out for a friend...she gave me the plants in payment...boy did she get the better end of that deal!! when the spines enter your skin they break off...and come up in a little blister... I took the plants home and planted them under my kitchen window...away from traffic.
