Helianthus, Mixed Bunch 3, with Mr Bee

Helianthus, Mixed Bunch 3, with Mr Bee

A light rain in autumn here, it is cool and the insects will go dormant. Here this bee is cuddled and slow in the shelter of the petals, face buried in the comfort as it sleeps. Wouldn't that be wonderful, climbing into a big flower to sleep under a petal cuddled deep in the sweet ripening pillows of young seeds?

I love that image of sleeping in a big flower, cuddled under a petal with seed pillows!

I always imagine myself in their shoes seeing them cuddled taking safety in a flower. :-) The fairy in my heart flutterin....lol.

You are very poetic green thumb, I can see exactly what you mean!

There is a line of a children's harvest song that comes to mind - 'broad beans are sleeping in a blankety bed'!

Mmmmmm! Wonderful imagery. Thank you.

:-) i always loved that but now i wont be able to look at a sunflower without thinking of being curled up inside it!

I forgot to say you always had to whisper that line!!!

I have put this in my favourites because I love that idea so much!

Thank you. :-) I found this area to refuge all sorts of things through an unseasonable month of rain last July. Very few natural things with such broad leaves and tough stalks.

good idea to keep them safe from lashing rain that spoils too many things

not so many broad leafed plants near you?

Not big like a sunflower. A few poplar saplings have very large leaves but most others are small, alder has probably the largest if your familiar with that size, 4-5 inches long and slimmer.

we have quite a lot of alder here, im trying to think how big the leaves are, they have those little cones on dont they?

2 Mar, 2013

Yep. And the leaves are pleated, not smooth.
