I am afraid that it will have to be cut down soon as it is a danger to my property and to the neighbours garden if it falls the wrong way in a gale. In its place I will plant a cherry tree next spring.

Be careful of the reason it is rotten.If it is something like silver leaf disease or plum canker then it would not be advisable to plant another of the cherry/plum family near the original spot.

Hi Xela, yes that is at my datcha, I have no idea what caused the rot, we took it over rotten.
