Both the sunflowers and Butterbur were badly damaged by the extreme hail storm we had earlier this year. The Butterbur I decided to chop back and it threw up new leaves (be warned I have a root shield/guard - it spreads quickly). The sunflowers (although they have holey leaves) and have a lot around the garden this year have all done well and I'll grow them again next as they give height to planting - on a new dimension!
Watering is the biggest issue, big plants = lots of water, we have installed an auto irrigation system is part of the garden but the side garden will have to wait -its rather expensive to do.
