Bjs - the lighter coloured stems belong to a different shrub. This picture shows that abeliophyllum is a rather sparse shrub, but does provide some colour very early in the season. However, I've never known it to flower for more than three weeks, unlike forsythia which puts on a longer display

Very attractive but something I am not familer with,is that one shrub or several,if its all one looks like it flowers on second year growth ?
I see now they call it Pink Forsythia,thats typical growth it all makes sence now never seen that before.
