That's a lovely Camelia.

When I first saw a row of flowering camellias in front garden in Swansea on a cold day in early March I couldn't believe my eyes. I thought someone had tied plastic roses onto an evergreen bush to brighten up their garden through a dull part of the year. Then I took a walk through Clyne gardens, saw their camellias in bloom and it dawned on me that there was a good chance they'd grow for me too. Bliss.
The flowers are edible, so when they are past their prime I pull them off and drop them into the chicken run, the hens eat the petals as if they were spinach.
