Codonopsis (mollis?)

Not sure of the species, not climbing or clinging, glaucus foliage. Although grown from RHS seed, many years ago, I have never managed to collect any seed from this plant, although I try to pollinate it each year. I don't even recall what the seed looks like, maybe powdery?

I did try to take a root cutting for a friend after I had given up on the seed front. A huge gnarly root, luckily I didn't kill the mother plant, it didn't root. Each year I still wiggle two flowers together, and brush pollen around to no avail.
