We block set red stemmed dog woods and yellow stemmed ones for contrast, at the back of our pond. Looking quite nice at this time of year. 16.11.08

Thanks Catfinch. I have been cutting them down each year so that I always have new, colourful stems but I'm going to just do this every other year now so they can get a bit bigger. From this photo, you cannot see but I have them set crow foot style so they are quite a good block of colour and the idea is for them to reflect against the water.

Great idea ! Hope you get a shot of this and post it for us to see ! Has your pond frozen over solid yet?

Hi Flcrazy, you've reminded me that I must try and get a photo of the dog woods reflecting. The pond has been frozen over the past couple of weeks but began to thaw a couple of days ago. Looked a bit murky this morning then I noticed the heron flying off, he must have been stirring the bottom up.

Thanks Amy, they give a bit of Winter colour. Can you see Bonnie on the path in the distance? She's the black blob, lol

Great backdrop to the pond, especially in winter! I bet the leaves are a nuisance in the pond autumn time though.

Hi Paul, Yes the dog woods do look nice against the pond. Falling leaves not to bad :-) Can't wait for the pond to look at its best i.e. late Spring. It is totally natural so probably a bit messy for some but the wildlife love it.

Looks great, lovely photo Da, is that a black dog in your dogwood or some other creature?

Hello Bornagain, thank you.
Ha ha, that's my black labrador Bonnie - she further along the path that runs behind the dog woods. :-)
