It is worth thinking about Spritz, I love mine and its now about 16 years old the seed heads are lovely as well as the pretty flowers.

Is it an alpine?

Yes its a flowering alpine plant and I understand its from the Rosaceae family. I have also found it its other names which are Mountain avens and Creeping oak

It does look pretty. I wonder how it got the 'octopetala' name - has it got 8 petals?

Yes you have it Spritz I looked it up and this is what came up.
The specific epithet octopetala derives from the Greek octo (eight) and petalon (petal), referring to the eight petals of the flower, an unusual number in the Rosaceae, where five is the normal number.
