Fuchsia microphylla

Fuchsia microphylla (Fuchsia microphylla)

I didn't know there were winter-flowering fuchsias - came upon this little beauty by chance!

How can I break this gently to you? It doesn't flower in the winter.
Like all fuchsias, it keeps going until the weather gets too bad for it. But it will come again next year like any other hardy fuchsia

I'm a bit surprised to hear that - the owner of the Nursery is a very knowledgeable (and a well known plantswoman) and told me that in our area it would probably hold off during bad weather but would flower again during 'milder' spells.I couldn't find a reference to it in my RHS books. Just have to wait and see what happens, I suppose!

We moved into our house last year and found one of these plants growing by the garage. It took until this year to identify it though.(RHS Rosemoor in North Devon has a couple). It flowers 11 months out of 12 so does flower in the winter and the bees love it. I am now nurturing cuttings for friends as it is so admired. In the sheltered spot by the garage it is quite leggy but over 4 ft high.
