Prunus x cistena
It's been in this pot for 3 years. I just trim it lightly every fall before we go south.

It's beautiful Klahanie
Keeping it in a pot allows you to keep it a good size too. Mine is about 30" tall.
Do the birds like the berries? I can't remember what I read about trimming it, I think you can let it be a bush or train it to be a tree?
I want a tree :)

Hi Floral,
Does your purple sand cherry has a central leader ? You can train and prune it to become a tree/standard. They do not mind being pruned.

Hi, I'll have to look in the morning :)
this is what I read about it
The purple leaf sand cherry grows 7-10' tall and wide. When it is young, it has an oval shape. As it reaches maturity, it will become arching with an open center, if not pruned.
Maintenance/Pruning:
Pruning on Prunus x cistena should be done after the flowers come in spring. It should be pruned as needed to keep it in an oval shape, or it will become spreading and open in the center as it matures.

That is correct info, as I understand.... but if it has a central leader then you can train it to a small tree other than that it will become a srub. They are so pretty in spring , does not matter if it is srub or tree. Being a tree is not a natural habit for it though.

I looked & there is one branch larger than the other 3. One of them comes up from the ground & the others look like they come from the main branch...did that make any sense lol.

The reason I need it to be a tree is lack of space on the ground!
