Selection of saxifraga in a fish box

A recycled box, a gift from Bjs and saxifraga of my own plus gifts from Bjs, Pcw and Scottish along with sand stone offcuts from our recent chimney stack rebuild is looking good. I hope the plants will spread out and fill the spaces. The sax in the top left corner shows how the sax flowers, dies but produces new babies all around it.

It looks very promising, Scotsgran. The sandstone offcuts are a good idea.

I will try and remember to post a photo next year, maybe when there are flowers to admire Bjs. Mel I asked if any offcuts be left on site so I could recycle them. I have cleared a messy area today and am hoping to build a scree bed or rocky outcrop on it. I live in hope lol.

Such offcuts are a great resource, Scotsgran, especially for an Alpine gardener!

I hate to admit it but I'm wondering if these are sempervivums, sedums or saxifrages or a mixture. Mel I don't think I qualify as an 'Alpine Gardener' yet. There is such a lot to learn and I don't retain facts as well as I did when I was younger. Thank you Homebird.

Oh, I think growing Alpines makes you an Alpine gardener, Scotsgran, even if a novice one!

I entered this box in the 'Not for competition' class at the Edinburgh SRGC show yesterday. There was no space in the main hall for that class so my plants and the box ended up on a table in the main entrance to the hall. The box got many admiring comments and the members who were staffing the entry were asked a lot about how to make one. I posted an updated photo last week to show how it is looking now. Thank you Bjs for another success.
