Silphium perfoliatum - 2016

Upright perennial for the back of the border, typically growing 7 or 8 feet tall. Needs a reasonably sunny spot, and soil that is moist but not waterlogged. Although fairly self supporting, it is better to give the stems a bit of support unless it is growing in a very sheltered spot. Rain water collects in little pools where the leaves clasp the stem, making it useful for wildlife wanting a drink.
