just about midnight

Every night ,around about midnight (sounds like the start of a meat loaf song lol)Mr Hyacinth and i go out into our garden him with his head lamp on me with my little torch and we do a SLUG HUNT …….i still fall about laughing each night coz the neighbours must think we are barking mad ….
but hey we get loads and loads of them little blighters ….they are quite small at the moment ,which makes me wonder do slugs have a breeding season ? …know nothing about them only know where they’ll be and when lol
i have a pond full of frogs and toads which helps ….zillions of tadpoles coming on very nicely …i always know when the frogs are there spawning (around march time )because my pond bubbles like a witches cauldron ( no offence to any whitches out there ) …sadly we can no longer keep gold fish as they keep dying due to spawn blocking their gills ….so we have surrenderend the pond completely to frogs toads and newts …who knows in return they may just give me a slug free garden in return one year
Happy gardening
Hyacinth

I feel your pain Hyacinth regards to the slugs - we have snails the size of houses (well maybe not quite) at this time of year. I've tried the pellets NO JOY trying to source one of them trap thingys - i wonder if anyone reading this has any idea what to do about these fellas.

re the spawn killing my fish .........welllllllll i dont know if it is a cert it can kill them but i lose them every year and every year Mr H does a Post mortem kinda thing ugh and spawn is chocka in their gills ...so i assumed that was the cause of death ....so have surrendered all to the frogs ....

You're doing all the right things Hyacinth (and Mr Hyacinth...lol), hunting them down, and encouraging frogs. I'm plagued with slugs and snails...they see my garden as the local takeaway I think :(
