The Tulips That Bloomed

As my grandmother reminds me, gardening like farming is a gamble. This year my gamble with ‘Pink Impression’ Darwin hybrid tulips didn’t pay as well as I would’ve liked. With very warm February days, shoots starting emerging from the ground at an alarming rate. Then came the frigid winds and snow of March and early April. About half of the sections that I planted were a casualty of frost bite and squirrels, and many of the ones that bloomed were blighted in other ways, but I’m trying to enjoy the tulips that bloomed… before another unseasonably late snow in the forecast gets to what is left. What can a girl do but wish for an honest-to-goodness spring to finally arrive!
I hope you enjoy these few spring pics. :)

My tulips have hardly bothered coming up this year! Yours are lovely though, and I like your house too!

Beautiful tulips!

They are grand. I never have the strength of mind to plant a big display all of the same thing, even though I know it pays off.

Xela & Louisa, so I'm not the only one. I was starting to think my planting method or the quality of bulbs might have contributed, but truly, this has been a very strange spring. Xela, your description fits my bulbs exactly.
Louisa, thank you about the house. It's small, but I love the look of it and the yard.
Spenny & Steragram, thanks very much!
Steragram, I find that I can usually plant fewer bulbs and still make a big statement when I plant in masses of the same type. Although as you can see, sometimes the weather decides to make a much bigger statement & ruins my plans!

My tulips haven't had a good time either, ivy clad. The dwarf ones are stunted, the flower heads have no stalks, and the taller varieties have been grazed by deer. I was looking forward to a smashing display this Spring, having topped up the stock in the autumn ... ah well, here's hoping we get the better of the weather and wildlife next year!
