Roller - Or Not?

Hi,
Would appreciate some help. We have what I would describe as a medium garden overall, in several different parts. I’m going for a petrol rotary mower but can’t decide whether or not to pay the extra for a roller. Aside from the stripes issue, are there any other pros or cons in a roller petrol mower versus one with wheels? Most of our garden is flat apart from a couple of areas with smallish slopes.

My son has a petrol one on wheels without the roller he loves it compared with many other he s had including the ones he s had ones with rollers.

We had very helpful advice from the Mowdirect helpline - phone number on google ( 0845 4588905 , 9am-5pm Mon-Fri) We told them the size of lawn and what we wanted from a mower and we bought the one they recommended based on that info - its brilliant, much better than the one we had before.

A lump has appeared on my lawn. I know I have got to
cut the turf off it, and dig out whatever is causing it.
A petrol mower with a roller would keep the surface level all the time.

It sounds ideal Snoop, and looking at your lawn on your blog it cuts well too..... good that you can mow over the stepping stones,

Well, over here, I've never seen a mower with rollers, and nobody is missing them. Seems like wheels would be lightweight and easier to push. The rollers add a lot of dead weight. I wouldn't want to push that around.
