Nastursiums that don't bloom

I’ve had great luck with nastursiums until this season. Tried everything, every trick in the book. Finally, I looked at my large planter blanketed in green leaves and promptly removed about 1/3 of all the leaves. In a week I had 15 flowers and now a week later: red, orange, yellow, cream and every color in between. Looks like thinning the herd is what it needed. How cool. Too much sun makes them wilt quickly though.

That's interesting. I forgot to sow them this year, but next year I may try doing that to them.

Another time try giving them poorer soil. In good compost they make masses of leaves in preference to flowers so don't feed them"!

I used to grow these in my last garden but gave up as they used to get totally covered in blackfly. Flower heads are nice in a salad. Glad they are now flowering for you. Jen
