Free plants - wow!

Today was a good day.
I was given 3 hellebores and an aspidistra plant. Yesterday, I’d responded to a Freecycle posting; Carol from the Carroll County Master Gardeners was looking for unwanted plants for the Mothers’ Day plant sale in May. They use the proceeds to fund beautification projects around the county, which tends to be in dire need of beautifying. I had some Rudbeckia to spare, since it reseeds itself so easily, and the Gaura just doesn’t get enough light here, so I emailed Carol & she picked it all up today. She was kind enough to bring me the hellebores and the aspidistra, and she’ll have more plants in a few weeks – she’s going on a plant rescue with the GA Native Plant Society and she’s going to dig up some ferns for me! The society rescues plants from areas that are going to be developed or cleared. I’ve never been able to participate in the plant rescues since they’re generally held on Saturdays and I have to work most weekends.
Nothing beats free plants!
Carol also told me about a tool called a Weed Wrench. It easily removes pest plants like Chinese privet and even small pine trees. It’s pricey – about $190 – but I’m going to get one anyway. I fight a constant battle against the small trees that seem to pop up everywhere I look & I just can’t keep up. I will let you all know how it works!

What excellent ideas your state has. We could do with something like that happening here.
Keep up the good work !

I've never heard of such schemes, I'll have to investigate - sounds good.
