I guess I am starting this blog because with all the information on the web, the best information comes from friends who have experienced the same problems in their gardens in the same gardening zones.
I am 72 and have recently had some positive experience with growing perennials. I have also had problems as you can imagine.
I hope to hear suggestions and answers to our gardening problems and concerns. When I learn how to upload pictures from my camera I will include them.
I live in NJ pine barons – and many have said that nothing will grow there – thus the word baron. With the right light, the right plants, the right amendments, and of course the right friends. OK friends lets share information and go and enjoy the garden.

I haven't seen the Jersey Devil in quite some time. Have you or any other of the Pineys seen him recently? Those across the pond are not going to know what I am talking about but I think you do:) Yes, it would be good to list your planted successes and fails in the garden and also to give photos and a good description of your garden soil and light conditions. If you take photos use the low end of the pixel range as too many pixels will prevent you from posting your photos. For fellow GOYers, in general the pine barrens soil is sandy, acidic and poor in nutrients, some of the microclimates therein are near subtropical. I have seen many orchids and insectivorous plants growing there and it is full of dwarf pine trees. The areas main agricultural crop is cranberry and blueberry. Any ponds or lakes have a tea colored tint to the water due to the high iron content in it. Littlefeat, you will be amazed at the knowledge and experience these gardeners have. Welcome!

A good place to start would be to make a list of plants that are doing well in nearby gardens. If you don't know the names just take some photos and someone on here will be able to tell you what they are.
