The Verdict Is In!

In my previous blog titled “ What Do I Have Here?” I unearthed a stone unlike any other that I have found on my property. I was wondering whether or not it could have been a fossil since fossils had been found at a construction site near where I reside. To get an idea of what it might be I sent the photos in that blog over to the geology museum of my old alma mater Rutgers (rec’d my BA there). I have taken an image of their surprisingly speed response to my inquiry.

So there it is. Since many members thought it was a fish I will pose it in my garden as such!

Wow that was quick. Mind you I have found our Natural History museum equally good. I was sort of right then with clay rolled around under a glacier.

I think using it as a fish in your garden will be brilliant, especially if you paint it up like you do your other garden ornaments.

Quick it was SBG considering that the college is on summer break and Right you are! You considered the tumbling effect of the ice age glacier I mentioned that was in my area. Since I only paint man made objects in my garden the rock fish will be placed au naturel in an oriental garden that I am presently making.

that will be a lovely addition to an oriental garden.

Gosh that was quick, I like that you are leaving it natural, my garden has a very weathered look about it, that is my style, which does include the moss covered walling, greening on my garden sheds and very pale grey looking fencing, obviously I do have some painted ornaments scattered around and to be honest many do need a fresh coat of paint, I'm not good at painting so sadly they don't get done, like me they are fading with age, lol, looking forward to seeing your new oriental garden L'strife......

There is nothing wrong with that fine patina of moss in the garden Lincs. It adds to the enchantment of it. Brings to mind the paragon of such gardens and that is the garden of Mossy aka Fabrice who is a GOY member.

Well that's a bit disappointing in a way but its good to know what it is, and well done Eileen! Are you going to put it by a little pond?

Hi Stera! I have decided to create a small Japanese Zen garden using this rock as the centerpiece. The components of this type of garden are rocks, gravel, sand and potted plantings such as jade plants and bonsai. I plan to arrange these items so as to have them represent certain things for contemplation and the use of one’s imagination. I never created a garden like this before so getting there will be half the fun:)

That sounds very interesting! Do you have time for contemplation with your garden to care for?

Oh yes, sans visiting grandchildren, I do have plenty of time. I manage to keep up with things in the garden which takes about 1 hour every day for general maintenance. A bit more time is used for special garden projects.

Oh yes I remember Fabrice and his garden, saw it on the television years back as well as following his blogs on here, it was absolutely wonderful....

Sorry I missed your blog! Not sure if it's because I was so overwhelmed at work pre holiday!!!
Good to know you got an answer, Loosestrife..even though its not a fossil, its still a fantastic feature for your zen garden!
