I am just starting to love my garden again after my husband cut down our three very old apple trees. In fairness to him, they had, had their day and were rotting from inside the trunk. We designed the garden around the trees when we moved in 12 years ago. The trees gave the garden depth, shade and mystic and I loved it. After three months I am starting to look at my garden without it feeling and looking totally bare but not wanting a garden without trees I have bought and planted not three but seven different fruit trees and am waiting in anticipation for them to grow into beautiful majestic trees to give me shade, depth and structure, I can then truly love my garden again; I feel it might take a few years though……

It's sad that your trees had to go, but I hope the new ones will look just as good in time.

I can image just how you feel, its bad enough losing small plants and shrubs but to lose three old trees must be so hard, as you say the back bones of the garden have gone, but good for you to replace them.
