What I am currently trying to grow in the garden

Hi, I live in the north east of the UK and have a seaside, west facing rear garden. Only a short while ago I began to notice people had strange looking shrubs and trees growing in their gardens. These of which looked tropical and they were growing astonishingly well. Where I live the winters are slightly colder and feel like they last forever than in the south of the country. So, I start looking in books at the library, looking on the internet etc. I eventually found a very helpful website which had been created by a keen exotics growing gardener in Kent. The address is: www.hardytropicals.co.uk
I found photographs on this site of the Canary Island Palm tree which were said to be around 12 years old. They were very large but were not tall. I also found that they were hardy to around – 8C when large and they were quite fast growing. (they must be judging by the photos I have seen over the years they were planted there!)
I also found out that plants such as Cordylines, some Palms, and many other big plants could be grown especially in the north east.
So from then onwards, I am currently experimenting with many different tropicals in my garden to see which will work best!

I'm also eager to see some photos of your experiment - would love to see which tropical plants you grow successfully there.
