bernieh i had a look through your photos (i hope you don't mind) and i saw your plant, its a lovely thing.I don't think it a stapelia sp,i think it belongs to the stapeliad family and is probably a Huernia sp.still a fantastic thing i wish you lived near me we could swop smelly cuttings lol

Thanks very much for the info Davidp - don't know that much about these plants myself. The one I have is the first I've ever owned. It somehow made it into my garden - probably from a pot plant I was given. Not complaining - apart from the odour - they're such a great looking thing. Yes shame there won't be any smelly cuttings swap!

bernieh do you grow your native terrestrial orchids?,i noticed your from Australia and you see i grow Pterostylis which are from your neck off the woods. If you did would you mind me picking your brain about them.

Davidp - I'm afraid I've never grown the pterostylis. I had a neighbour down in Brisbane who grew the grandiflora (she thought it was a beautiful thing - I wasn't that impressed!) She had them growing in pots and I remember that they would die back in summer to an underground tuber and she would let the pot completely dry out at this time. They would start growing from late summer and flower in late autumn and winter.
