We gonna do Clematis again next year on an obelisk - after I inadvertently binned this years efforts!!

We had them in a trough trailing up the triangular willow trellis against the garage wall - the trellis is still there in the 'pond' pictures.

No real sunshine against that wall and after having a single bloom off one of the 3 plants, they all seemed to be dieing and Ali said it didn't look good. So.....well, you get the picture MP!!

Promised I'd buy her more next year and we both like the obelisk idea as we can bring them out into the sunshine.

Lots of flowers on the clematis ,your soil has got LOTS of goodness in ti and the clem is a very "willing " plant , well done you!

Thanks Indy! The soil is almost pure clay, but I planted them in their own little compost island til I can sort it!

Clay is actually very fertile stuff what makes it difficult to grow stuff is that its fairly impermeable to water and needs breaking up a bit with org mat and sand as you know.

Yep! Need to get it sorted asap, but will need to wait til finances allow!!
