Yes, thanks Bbb...I wonder if the 'Everlast' is hardier than 'jamesonii'?

It's quite possible. According to the book, the modern hybrids are the result of a cross between G.jamesonii and G. viridiflora. It does however give the zone number 8-11. I think we're 5, but won't swear to it.

I have a Gerbera - I keep in indoors over the winter. It (and it's baby) are in the greenhouse at the mo. When they flower, I bring them in the house (which is a bit on the dark side) and when they stop flowering they go back in the greenhouse - they go back and for quite a bit in the summer! Very easy to propagate by division. I don't think they are hardy. They need lots of watering.

No personal experience, but following is from 'Botanica' 1994 edition.
Gerbera jamesonii. They need full sun to part shade in hot areas and fertile, composted, well- drained soil. Water well during summer. Gerbera make good houseplants, where they require good light and regular feed ing during the growing season. Propagate from seed in autumn or early spring, from cuttings in summer, or by division from late winter to early spring.
Hope this helps.
